There is a voice existing in our world that stands above all other voices. It is one that all women fall prey to when exposed to its shocking beauty and one that all men should envy. It is the voice of Mr. Michael Buble. Michael Buble has been crooning like it’s nobody’s business for years, and frankly, I think he is under appreciated. Why on earth would any female, regardless of age, look any farther for a “celebrity crush” than Buble? Why Justin Bieber? Why the boys of One Direction? No one compares to Buble and this is why.
First, Buble is a real musician. He worked his way up, no silly television reality shows, no viewer votes to determine his fate. He did it through hard work and perseverance and essentially created a market for himself that hadn’t existed for years: jazz. Now, I’m not saying that no one listens to jazz anymore. Lots of people do, especially here in Eau Claire. But a self-proclaimed jazz artist making it onto mainstream radio? Unheard of. Michael Buble did it with ease. Although his first album was received fairly well, it was the release “Home,” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbSOLBMUvIE) featured on his second album “It’s Time” that captivated millions. The song, although not particularly jazzy itself, spiked sales of the album, which featured several great covers, such as “Save the Last Dance for Me” and “Feeling Good” that gave younger listeners like myself an appreciation for a genre I’d previously known nothing about.
It’s not just that Buble’s a hard worker; he’s also ridiculously talented. Honestly, it’s one thing to be a good singer, but if you have subpar music to go along with it, who cares? Buble is, in my opinion, one of the greatest male vocalists around today, but he has real knowledge of music, as well. He has a clear appreciation of not just jazz, but bebop, Motown, and even modern pop. Buble takes pride in not being just your typical artist. His 2010 album “Crazy Love” was recorded live almost in its entirety because Buble didn’t want it to sound overproduced. He honestly cares about the quality of his music, which is more than can be said about a lot of the musicians on the radio these days.
Now, I’m not going to try to convince you that Michael Buble is the best looking man in the world. All you Johnny Depp, George Clooney, and Ryan Gosling fans might leave me nastygrams, but I am prepared to argue that he doesn’t have to be. He doesn’t need teenyboppers, or their moms, falling at his feet in order to gain the respect he deserves. Buble is happily married, and although the only way to know for sure is to talk to him yourself, I would assume that he has little interest in what his fans think of his attractiveness. He’s a fairly normal looking guy! He has some standout assets, but nothing compared to some Hollywood heartthrobs. What Buble has is old fashioned charm. His music, personality, and demeanor all scream “perfect gentleman.” Isn’t that what all girls want anyways?
Michael Buble represents what music should always be about: a humble man just trying to make a living doing what he loves. And I think his fans all agree, he’s doing a pretty good job of it!
