2015 was full of interesting and diverse moments, some of which paved the way for the future. There were social movements, new laws, inventions, and more that influenced how we will remember 2015. This is my list of the best and the worst in 2015.

  1. The Legalization of Gay Marriage – BEST

The acceptance of homosexuality has grown over time and this year, it seemed like everyone was on board. June 26, in a 5-4 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage became legal everywhere in the U.S. This new civil right was a huge victory for people everywhere, gay or straight. This paved the way for a more accepting society and a brighter future for homosexuals.

  1. Donald Trump – WORST

For obvious reasons, Donald Trump is one of the worst parts of 2015. With his racist remarks, terrible personality, and insane ideas, he’s put a bad mark on America. He’s quickly become one of the most infamous people of 2015.

  1. The 2015 MTV VMA’s – BEST

The 2015 VMA’s program was probably the best thing on television this year. The world’s biggest celebrities gathered in one room for awards, performances, and red carpet appearances. It was by far one of the most entertaining award shows and featured the biggest moments. For those who didn’t watch it, here’s what you missed; Kanye for President 2020, Nicki Minaj calls out Miley Cyrus in the best way possible, a heartwarming Taylor Swift and Kanye moment, Justin Bieber crying onstage, and of course ALL of Miley’s outfits.

  1. Increased hatred toward other races – WORST

Big problems occurred in 2015 regarding racism and it’s time we discuss it. With the terrorist attacks that have happened around the world, many have started to have negative connotations of certain groups, specifically Muslims. Also, there have been several times where there’s been injustice for black people including Sandra Bland, and Trayvon Martin. The world could benefit from more tolerance.

  1. Zayn leaving One Direction – BEST/WORST

By now, everyone is aware that on March 25, 2015 band member Zayn Malik separated from One Direction. This was one of the biggest events noted on social media this year, people went insane. Many cried, and many were angry but by now we’ve all accepted it. Although it was hard at first for most, Malik may now proceed in a solo career that everyone is excited for. Overall, it was very upsetting but turned out okay for Malik and the fans.

6. 2015 TV- BEST

2015 was one of the best years of television. Great new shows began like “Empire,” “The Last Man on Earth,” “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” and “Master of None.” Also, existing shows like “American Horror Story,” “Fargo,” “Mad Men,” “Jane the Virgin,” and “Game of Thrones” proved themselves to still be the best. And sadly, many shows ended this year like “Parks and Recreation,” “Glee,” “Parenthood” and “Two and a Half Men.” Hopefully in 2016, we will say goodbye, and hello, to some great shows.

  1. The introduction to Caitlyn Jenner – BEST

For many years, the topic of transgender sexual orientation was very touchy to talk about and many avoided it, or at least tried to. People were uneducated and unaware of what it truly meant. In 2015, the former Bruce Jenner told the world about his decision to transition into a female. Being a reality TV star and former Olympian, Caitlyn’s transition was apparent for the whole world to see. Her courage helped the world understand what it was and what it was like. Her story now inspires people around the world to accept themselves for who they truly are. Caitlyn also received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs for her bravery.
