The Memorial High School Jazz Department participated in the UWEC Jazz Festival April 21 and 22. Jazz 1 placed first in the AA division of competition. That win placed the band in the night concert with Doc Severinsen in attendance. Grammy award winner and 30-year band leader for the Johnny Carson Show, Severinsen has made more than 30 albums. His musical achievements are myriad.

Also in attendance was Milwaukee native and nationally acclaimed jazz drummer Carl Allen who has done more than 200 recordings according to his on-line biography.

According to EauClaireJazz.com, “The Eau Claire Jazz Festival is a two-day music festival featuring student competitions for middle school, high school, and college vocal and instrumental ensembles, as well as jazz events for the entire community to enjoy. The Eau Claire Jazz Festival is a production of Eau Claire Jazz, Inc., in partnership with the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, and brings jazz music and culture to Eau Claire area residents and visitors.”
