Make sure you go the bathroom before watching this movie because you won’t want to miss a second of it. Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan released his latest thriller January 20, 2017. Believe me, it is truly satisfying and one of the best thrillers I’ve seen in years. I viewed this movie at Carmike Cinemas Jan. 24.

“Split” has an unpredictable twist that you won’t see coming. This 177-minute, thriller/horror film, was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Shyamalan is best known for his work on “The Sixth Sense” that was released in 1999 followed by other well-reviewed movies like “Unbreakable” and “Signs.” After that he released the movie “After Earth,” which wasn’t a success, but he tried again in 2015 with “The Visit.” It was a decent movie with some good reviews, but he definitely has a huge comeback with “Split.”

“Split” is about three teenage girls: “Claire” played by Hailey Lu Richardson, “Marcia” played by Jessica Sula and “Casey” who is played by Anya Taylor-Joare. They are kidnapped by “Dennis” who is one of the 23 identities living inside of Kevin Wendell’s body. Wendell is played by James McAvoy. Dennis/Wendell holds the girls captive in a huge cellar.

“Dr. Fletcher,” Kevin’s psychiatrist, played by Betty Buckley, gets plenty of emails from different identities warning her that there is a new 24th identity that is about to be revealed. Throughout the whole movie, the girls try to figure out which identities can help them escape and which ones won’t. While waiting for the 24th identity called “The Beast,” which is the most dangerous one of them all, the girls are trying to escape from the cellar that they’re being held in. They have no phone and no way to escape.

I thought that the acting was very good, especially from James McAvoy who played all 24 identities. As I just said the 24th identity is revealed in the movie as stated on the promotional poster. I am not a spoiler type of person.

This amazing film is not in the Eau Claire Micon Cinemas Theatre but it is at Carmike Cinemas and Chippewa Falls Micon Cinemas. I know that Carmike Cinemas is more expensive but take my word that the $10.25 ticket is totally worth it for this one. And if that’s too expensive for you here’s a tip; you should probably watch the movie on a Tuesday because tickets are just $5. Overall, I think that Shyamalan did an excellent job. I would rate this 4.8 out of 5 eagles.
