The Memorial boys’ golf team participated in a two-day, 36-hole invitational in Hayward, Wisc. Friday, May 1 through Saturday May 2, placing 10th out of 24 teams with a total score of 682. The first 18 holes were played Friday at Hayward Country Club, while the final 18 holes were played Saturday at Big Fish Country Club. Play began Friday at 1:00 p.m. and lasted until 6:00 p.m. Saturday golfing started at 8:30 a.m. and finished by 2:00 p.m. Memorial shot a 344 on Friday and a 338 on Saturday. North won the meet with a final score of 612.

Coach David Wiltgen was extremely happy with his team’s performance, saying that they’ve been “improving exponentially” and “getting better by the minute.” He noted that his team has “shaved 40 strokes off of our 18-hole scores, which translates to 20 strokes off of our nine-hole scores.” Basically, on a standard nine-hole course, Memorial’s golfers have been 20 strokes better than they were to start the season, which began with a last place finish in a conference meet at Lake Hallie.

The lowest score for Memorial was shot by Chase Rauckman, 11, who managed a 157. This was good enough for 15th place out of 112 total golfers. The overall highest score of the meet was shot by Matt Tolan, 11 of North, who accomplished a 144.

Memorial’s next golf meet will be Thursday, May 7 at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake. The meet will begin at 9:00 a.m.
