Mr. Power’s death generates impromptu memorial

Mr. Powers death generates impromptu memorial

Hogan Metzler , Visual Editor and Technical Production Manager

Although Mr. Power had only been with the close-knit Memorial band family for only a few weeks, students quickly came to know, enjoy, and respect their new band director. When we all received word of his passing, Memorial band students covered his door with sticky notes and brought flowers to wish Mr. Power goodbye. Many also posted goodbyes to Facebook, Instagram, and other social media sites.  Chippewa Falls McDonnell High sent letters of sympathy to the Memorial Band program and to the Power family. Bus transportation for band students will be provided to Mr. Power’s Oct. 24 memorial service in LaCrosse.

“Mr. Power, I came to Memorial excited this year to have you as our new director. By the end of the first week, I could tell you were going to make big things happen with our jazz program… a wonderful man who had the potential to change so many lives… gone so soon. You will be missed.”

-Daniel Marquez-

“He is loved and missed so much.”

-Makayla Moen-

“Gene was a friend, a fellow musician I’ve played with for years… This is a huge loss for the Eau Claire area. Thoughts… are with friends and family. Gene will be missed by so many.”
